Generate images in n8n for free
You can generate images in n8n at no cost with PostImager's beta: 50 renders a month per account, with no card. It fills fixed templates with your text, so it suits blog cards, quotes, offers and product posts. If you want a new picture from a prompt, you need an AI image model, which is a different kind of tool.
Set it up
- Sign in with Google at postimager.com and create an API key.
- In n8n, add a Header Auth credential: name Authorization, value Bearer followed by your key.
- Add an HTTP Request node: method POST, URL https://postimager.com/v1/renders?wait=60, using that credential.
- Send JSON that names the template and maps your fields into variables.
- Add an Idempotency-Key header with something unique per item, so a retry does not use a second render.
- Use output.download.url in the next node, or download the file there.
What free covers
Each account gets 50 renders a month and up to 25 a day, as PNG, JPG or a one-page PDF. Everyone shares a limit of 500 renders a day and 4,500 a month, so you can be refused on a busy day even with renders left. At a limit, the API refuses with a clear error and nothing is charged. This is a beta with no uptime commitment. Paid plans are proposals and are not on sale.
When you need an AI model instead
Templates cannot draw anything new. If each post needs its own picture, use an image model and then, if you want your exact words on it, send that picture to a template as the photo. AI models can garble text, which is the case a template handles well.
Common questions
- Do I need a credit card?
- No. PostImager has no checkout at all during the beta.
- Is this an AI image generator?
- No. It places your text and photo into fixed templates. The same input gives the same layout each time.
- What happens after 50 renders?
- The API refuses further renders until next month, and nothing is charged. Previews in the dashboard do not use renders.
