Turn each new RSS item into an image in n8n
To make an image for each new blog post, connect an RSS Feed Trigger in n8n to an HTTP Request node that calls PostImager with the article card template. The title and image from the feed go in as fields, and a download link to the finished card comes back for your next step. There is a ready workflow to import, and it was run in a real self-hosted n8n.
How the workflow runs
- Download the workflow from the n8n and Make setup page and import it into n8n.
- Choose your Header Auth credential on the HTTP Request node.
- Replace the sample trigger with an RSS Feed Trigger pointed at your feed.
- The node sends the item fields and uses the item guid as the Idempotency-Key, so a retry of the same post does not make a second image.
- Pass output.download.url to the next step, such as your scheduler. If the render has no image yet, the workflow stops with an error instead of passing on an empty link.
What it does not do
PostImager makes the image and stops there. It does not post to social networks, so your own workflow has to do that step. Download links last 24 hours, so post or store the file within that time.
Common questions
- Can n8n make an image for every blog post?
- Yes. An RSS Feed Trigger followed by an HTTP Request node to an image API can do this for each new item. The workflow on the setup page does it with PostImager.
- What happens if a feed item has no image?
- If a required field is missing, the render is refused with a message naming the field, and it is not counted. Map a fallback value in the workflow if your feed can leave a field empty.
